How to choose website domain?

You have a real estate website, now what?

First step is buying your OWN domain. At least one but you can have a lot of fun when you purchase multiple domains!

Why buy a domain? Simple – You should ALWAYS purchase your own domain so you always have full control over your websites, your real estate marketing, your branding and everything that comes along with this.

How to choose a domain? This is probably the hardest part… deciding what domain to purchase and use. Here are some of my thoughts on this.

  1. Always buy your firstlastname.com (even if you don’t use it, many times people will do search for your name first so buy this, maybe even buy a couple versions if you can, especially if you have a commonly misspelled last name (like me – Holliday – my name isn’t available but I would buy HeatherHolliday and HeatherHoliday.com).
  2. Keep it short and memorable. Your domain should be short and easy for someone to remember. You will be putting these on all of your marketing including your business cards so the shorter it is, the larger print you can use on a small business card.
  3. Stay away from Tradmarked names. If you are going to use a trademarked name, be sure you look up and follow the rules associated with doing this (realtor, remax, other franchise name). There is nothing worse than advertising a domain and having it on all your social, signs, advertising only to get a cease and desist letter and having to rebrand yourself! If you do buy those domains, that is fine – just don’t use it as your main advertising.
  4. Buy multiple domains. If you are looking to have landing pages on your website for farming neighborhoods, cities, etc. Get multiple domains that are cohesive with your marketing and branding so when you are farming that area you can use that domain on the print marketing.
  5. Do I buy .com, .net, .org, .realestate? I would advise to always buy .com’s since that is what people automatically think of for websites. .orgs are for non-profits.
  6. Think of your Branding. Your social accounts, your user names, the #hashtags you can use in your posts. Ideally you would want all of your business social to match your domain name so here are some ideas to get your brain going on deciding what domain will work for you.
  • HeatherMOVES321 (areacode – but easily purchase multiple domains for your farming areas)
  • HeatherSELLS321
  • HeatherSOLDit.com
  • 321Homes.com
  • DiscoverHomesinBrevard (County / city / neighborhood)

Once you have your domain, you can set up DNS records for most websites. The other domains if you chose multiple domains, can easily be forwarded to those pages on your website! Click here for tips on setting up your booj domain.

This is your business so at minimum you should always have at least one domain that you have full control over. Do not have a website company or your office purchase this for you. You purchase it so you have control of it. You are worth the $15/yr to control your business and marketing! I personally use godaddy.com, they are super simple to use and have always had great customer support.

What Website should you be using?

So often I am asked “Which website is the best to use”, unfortunately there is not one answer that is best since all Brokerages, Teams and Agents run their business in their own unique way. Here are some questions that I would ask someone when it comes to narrowing down a website option that may work best for their business.

  • Does your current website give you a positive return on your investment?
  • How often are you updating content?
  • Do you have your own domain that you list on all of your marketing material?
  • Why do you want a website and what do you plan on doing with it?Are you looking to generate leads? Need FB Pixels, Analtics?
  • Do you plan on blogging / Vlogging?
  • Do you need to add custom searches (cities, neighborhoods, etc)

Once you know the answers on why you need a website and what your intentions are with the website, this will help narrow down which type of site will work best for you!

Looking for a Lead Gen website? The sites below are perfect for Brokerage or larger teams so that you can run ad campaigns, agents can get their own sites and the CRM system and tools available are insane. They may cost more than a traditional website but if you have a team that knows how to convert, these sites may be a perfect match for you!

Do you want a nice website that doesn’t break the bank but will allow a ton of customization, agent landing pages & a full CRM along with the ability for analytics, pixels & more for running ads? The Organize SEO on these sites have impressed us as well!

RE/MAX booj – Agents now have the new customizeable booj platform with website & full CRM, mobile app and more! Will this site work for you?

The booj website is perfect for the average agent who wants a nice website that they can customize, set & go! For 80% of Agents, this is the perfect solution because they do not want to add blogs, are not running ads for lead generation and just need a nice site for consumers to find them and have the capability of running & saving searches, see their reviews, buyer – seller guides, home valuation and other goodies you can provide on the website. You can even create pages to feature areas, cities, neighborhoods and more. A perfect solution and best of all, it comes with your membership to RE/MAX.

Bottom line – you need a website that will work with what your needs are for a website and you want to ensure the return on investment of a website is positive! By answering the questions above and having a clear purpose of what your website needs to be able to do for you, you will be able to find the perfect match to help you with your business!

Choose Your Image Wisely

When customers visit your website, the first thing they’re drawn to is imagery, not text. On social media, posts get much more attention when they’re accompanied by interesting graphics. This is why it’s so important to choose the right images for your website, social networks, and other mass communications.

  1. Images should be professional. That doesn’t necessarily mean buttoned up – if you have a lifestyle website, for example, you certainly don’t want to use stuffy images. Images should always be high quality, though.
  2. Images should stay in-line with your brand. If you sell writing services and you often post photos of the writing process and your home office, don’t all of a sudden throw in shots of your dog or hanging out at a bar with friends. Social media marketing is social, yes, but it shouldn’t be off message.
  3. Instead of using stock images, hire a photographer to shoot for you. If you’re good at planning, you’ll know in advance what imagery you’ll need and you can send the photographer a shot list.
  4. Build a lifestyle around your brand using images. Let’s say you sell jewelry – you don’t only need shots of the jewelry, but also images of people wearing the jewelry and the lifestyle that your ideal customers lead.
  5. Avoid offensive images. One of the most important customer service tips to learn is to never offend your audience!
  6. Only use legal images. Don’t pull images off of other websites if you don’t have permission. When searching online, make sure to find “Creative Commons” images.

Whatever images you choose, make sure that you’re always appealing to the customer. Your business’ imagery is a public relations matter and your audience should always be your first priority.

Web Retargeting and What That Means To You

Web Retargeting and What That Means To You

Web retargeting ads are the new wave for companies when it comes to online shopping. That’s because by employing retargeting ads, businesses are able to reach roughly 98% of the users who browsed their websites but did not make any purchases. By using this tactic, companies are truly able to bring in more revenue than ever before, while avoiding nagging and annoying the customer at hand.

For those that have never heard of web retargeting ads before, this method is a way to increase online sales. That’s because it allows the company to stay at the front and center of a potential buyer’s mind while they’re simply window-shopping the Internet. By showing ads of a product long after the potential buyer got out of the business’ website, the individual is more likely to return to the site and make the purchase they were once contemplating.  I am sure you have noticed that once you visit a website for something that product is now following you across the web?  To many this is a little freaky but when you use it to your advantage, it can be very promising in bringing potential clients back to your website!

In fact, for most websites, about 2% of web traffic results in a purchase or some type of next step. Most of the people browsing websites are doing just that. They have no intent of buying any products or services from the site they’re looking at. However, with retargeting, companies are able to connect with the 98% of potential buyers who did not convert on the first time around. Similar to social media marketing, it’s a way of speaking directly to those who have proven to already be interested in what’s being sold.

Like social media, this is a tactic that is especially important for the real estate industry. That’s because with retargeting, the listings remain at the top of the brain, which is crucial for a field with so much competition. When the individual is looking for a real estate agent, they’ll come across the company’s website. Even if they don’t do anything but glance at the site, these listings and agent will continue to pop up if the individual does another similar web search in the coming days. The ad will even show before any of the competitors, which again is vital in this sort of industry. It’s this sort of persistence with retargeting that makes all the difference.

You, Your Webpage, and Design

If you want to work in real estate, you will need to put on a good marketing plan. While true, people can’t rely on old methods like bench advertisements and phone book placements. No, a real estate agent needs an Internet presence with a great website. With this in mind, here are three reasons why a great website will help you draw in more clients.

People expect it: First and foremost, if a potential buyer doesn’t find your site, he or she will grow a little frustrated. Think about it, people from all business areas now have websites, and you are at a severe disadvantage if you can’t provide this, now basic, service to your clients. Simply put, potential homebuyers will head to the next business if you don’t have even a basic website.

Marketing: With a decent webpage design, you can market to your potential clients with ease. When landing on your site, people will notice the great graphics, nice pictures and decent layout of a site. Then, when they check it out, they are likely to use you as a real estate agent.

Link to social media: Finally, if you have an online presence and want to see it succeed, you will need to have social media. Luckily, if you have a decent website, you can engage in social media marketing without much trouble. Since people love to share information, news and pictures, your site will help you rise to the top. Remember, this will only grow, and you must link back to your social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter, at minimum.

If you are a real estate agent, you need to compete with your well-funded competition. To do so, you will want an Internet presence, complete with a great website containing all the vital information about your services.
